It - Welcome to Derry (2025)
- Genre:
- Fantasy, Horror
- Starring:
- Jovan Adepo, Bill Skarsgård, Taylour Paige
A few weeks ago I finally got around to watch the two part It movie (2017 and 2019). I'll write more about it later (short version: first part is much stronger IMO). For now, though, I just finished the "Welcome to Derry" series, and loved it.
It's not perfect, of course. But I felt it added a lot to the world of that story without trampling over previous things. New characters, but they have ties to others. Explanations of a few things (no spoilers here, though).
More than all that, though, it's the type of horror I like best: It's actually creepy and scary, not just gross-out bloody. Don't misunderstand me - it is bloody. As relentlessly brutal in both the gore, and in the sense that no one is truly safe from being killed in horrible fashion. The psychological part, that's what makes It so scary and, I think, so enduring. It feeds on your fears, and brings them to life.
So, while not perfect, it's definitely one of the better adaptions of a Stephen King work that I've seen.
