Stop Asian Hate
The attack on Asian people in Atlanta that has left 8 (so far) dead is a direct result of the hatred of Asian people that's been going on for centuries. It was fanned by the previous president, and by politicians like our own Buddy Carter who is still going on about "holding China accountible."
I'm seeing people who've posted things about the "China virus" now saying how bad they feel about the murder of these people in Atlanta. I'm not having it.
We have to call out racism against Asian Americans.
If you've used the term "Chinese Virus" or "Kung Flu," you're racist and you need to stop. If you consider yourself Christian, you need to repent. Racist attacks against Asians in American have increased up because of this hatred.
Did you know that one of the first immigration laws in the US was to ban Chinese women from immigrating to the US (Page Act, 1875)? That we went through a period where we tried to run off Chinese immigrants by killing and terrorizing? Such as the Rock Springs Massacre (1885) in which about 28 Chinese were killed. Some were burned alive, some were shot, some were left out and exposed to wild animals.
The Chinese Exclusion Act (1882) banned ALL immigrans from China. It was not repealed until the end of 1943. In other words, when I was born in 1976, people from China had only been able to legally immigrate for 33 years.
I'm guessing that, like me, you never learned this in school. Maybe you've never heard this until just now. We don't teach much of our racist history. But we are continually impacted by it.
And people are literally being killed because of it. We have to stop. We have to call it out, and we have to deal with it.
